Affiliate Awards

Affiliate Excellence Award
Established in 1997, this award is given by the NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates to affiliates that meet standards of excellence to which all affiliates should aspire. Deadline July 15

Affiliate Journal Award
Established in 1996 for top award and honorable mentions given by the NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates to affiliate journals that are evaluated by a panel of judges as best meeting the award criteria. Deadline May 1

Affiliate Membership Awards
Established in 1987, this award is given by the NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates to affiliates with the highest percentage of membership increase—three awards in the state, regional, provincial category; three awards in the local category, and one award for affiliates who have recruited the most new NCTE members.  To be eligible for members recruited, affiliates must send their new member NCTE membership applications through the NCTE Affiliates office. Deadline EXTENDED to JUNE 1

Affiliate Multicultural Program Award
Established in 1993, this award is given by the NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates to affiliates who adopt programs, policies, activities, and other events which encourage greater participation and development of multicultural involvement within each affiliate. Deadline May 1

Affiliate Newsletter Award
Established in 1993 for top award and honorable mentions given by the NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates to affiliate newsletters that are evaluated by a panel of judges as best meeting the award criteria. Deadline May 1
 
Affiliate Website Award
This award is given to honor affiliates that have websites that best meet set criteria. Deadline May 1

NCTE Fund Teachers for the Dream Affiliate Award
The NCTE Fund invites affiliates to implement initiatives aimed at recruiting English language arts teachers of color and will offer grants to those selected affiliates.  Deadline May 1 

NCTE Leadership Development Award – Supported by Pearson Education
Established in 1999, this award is given to an early career teacher (1–5 years experience) from each state, regional, and provincial affiliate who has never attended an NCTE Annual Convention and who has demonstrated a capacity for professional leadership and a willingness to join and participate in the affiliate. Deadline is now June 15

NCTE/SLATE Intellectual Freedom Award – National
Established in 1997, this award is given by a joint subcommittee of the SLATE (Support for the Learning and Teaching of English) Steering Committee and the NCTE Standing Committee Against Censorship to individuals, groups, or institutions that merit recognition for advancing the cause of intellectual freedom. Deadline May 1

NCTE/SLATE Intellectual Freedom Award – State, Regional, Provincial Affiliates
Established in 1997, this award is given by state, regional, and provincial affiliates, who choose to participate, to honor individuals, groups, or institutions that merit recognition for advancing the cause of intellectual freedom; established by NCTE and SLATE—Support for the Learning and Teaching of English. Deadline May 1

NCTE High School Teacher of Excellence Award
This award was established in 2001 by the Secondary Section to recognize and celebrate high school classroom teachers. Deadline May 1
